About us

We are a Non-profit organization that seeks to build community for the LGBTIQA+ population of Querétaro and its surrounding areas. We offer a safe and welcoming space where diversity is celebrated and comprehensive well-being is promoted through cultural, social, and educational activities that take place both inside and outside our site in the historic center of the city. LA CASA DE RUBÉN or by its full name ‘Centro Comunitario La Casa de Rubén’, in English: ‘Community Center La Casa de Rubén’, provides a space for full personal development that does not suppress self-expression.

We promote personal growth through group dynamics, networking events, mental health initiatives, the visibility of positive LGBTIQA+ role models, and partnerships with public and private institutions across different sectors, among other efforts.

History

This project was conceived in 2023 to honor the memory of Rubén Salazar Lazareno (1988–2021): a beloved son, brother, and friend, and a member of the LGBTIQA+ community, who in life enjoyed turning his home into a gathering place filled with respect and tolerance, where laughter—and above all, love—were never absent.

With the intention of giving continuity and deeper meaning to his life, LA CASA DE RUBEN was established in March 2024. Since, LA CASA DE RUBEN has organized cultural, social, educational, and therapeutic events to uplift and strengthen the LGBTIQA+ community.

Vision

We aspire to be a space, both locally and nationally, for the LGBTIQA+ community and its allies. Here at La Casa de Rubén, we aim to consolidate an inclusive, safe, and ever-evolving environment that empowers everyone to be the best version of themselves. Our commitment is to celebrate diversity and promote holistic well-being, fostering dialogue, personal and collective growth, and contributing to the construction of a more just, equitable, and loving society.
