Assistance Programs

Weaving networks is also caring for those who need it most.

We are committed to providing direct support to LGBTIQA+ individuals in vulnerable situations, whether due to socioeconomic hardship, violence, lack of access to basic services, deteriorating health, or social exclusion. Our work focuses on those who, because of their age, sexual orientation, gender identity, health condition, or socioeconomic status, face structural barriers to fully exercising their rights. As a community space, we implement assistance actions that dignify the lives of those who need it most, strengthening their autonomy and overall well-being through direct access to support, guidance, training, and basic services.

Who do we assist?

LGBTIQA+ individuals in situations of:

Economic hardship or unemployment

Domestic or community violence

Homelessness or housing insecurity

Physical, mental, or trans-specific health emergencies

Exclusion due to gender identity or expression

Our place acts as a reliable and safe access point where vulnerable LGBTIQA+ individuals can find real and immediate support. Our mission is to respond to urgent needs and accompany processes of recovery and empowerment from a place of compassion, social justice, and mutual care.

We work with specialized organizations that provide direct assistance (food, temporary housing, medical care, shelters, among others), and we maintain an up-to-date directory of institutions and professionals to whom we refer urgent cases of individuals who arrive at our place without a support network.

How can you help?

If you are part of a foundation, company, collective, or institution, you can join this assistance work by:

Donating essential goods that are directly delivered to people in vulnerable situations.

Collaborating as a workshop facilitator or professional, offering services to vulnerable populations.

Providing assistance services to individuals referred from La Casa de Rubén.

Offering spaces, materials, or supplies that help meet basic human needs.

La Casa de Rubén works with assistance as an act of direct solidarity with those who need it most. Our commitment is to dignity, mutual care, and justice for all LGBTIQA+ people in vulnerable situations.

What do we do at La Casa de Rubén?

We provide direct and personalized care through:

Employment skills workshops, aimed at unemployed people or those in precarious jobs. We teach everything from how to create a resume to how to use digital tools to improve job opportunities.

Creative and sustainable trade workshops, offering people without income the chance to generate economic alternatives through activities such as carpentry, sewing, makeup, writing, or performing arts.

Health and self-care assistance days, in collaboration with specialized institutions and professionals, where we offer free basic medical guidance, mental health services, sexual health, and trans health services in partnership with specialists, collectives, and public services.

Solidarity donation campaigns, where we directly provide clean clothing, personal hygiene products, non-perishable food, and medication to people in need.

Social guidance with a human rights perspective, helping individuals access legal assistance, psychological support, association with shelters, or access to basic health services.
